Surrey Plasterers began as a small independent outfit with a simple promise: be the tradespeople we’d want in our own homes. Most of our first customers were neighbours in KT8 who were tired of two things — quotes from the big firms that seemed priced off a different planet, and odd-job numbers that stopped answering once a deposit cleared. We set out to be the third option: proper preparation, proper materials, a fixed written quote before a tool comes off the van.

Today we skim and re-plaster rooms and whole houses, render in monocouche, silicone and traditional sand & cement, build and board stud walls, rescue sagging lath & plaster ceilings, deal safely with Artex, restore period cornice, work in lime for the properties that demand it, lay floor screeds, and run trade accounts for builders and landlords. The business has grown; the phone is still answered by someone who can actually tell you what’s wrong with your wall.

What “family-run” actually means

You’ll see the phrase on a lot of vans. For us it means three concrete things:

• Plain English, not jargon — we explain what failed, why, and what happens if you leave it. You decide with the facts, not under pressure.
• Quote first, always — written and itemised before work starts. If we find something extra mid-job — blown backing plaster, rotten laths — you get a photo and a price before we touch it.
• Long-term customers over one-off invoices — if a wall only needs a patch, we patch it. We’d rather re-skim one room well than talk you into three. That’s why people come back.

What we’re proud of

• Fully insured for domestic and trade work, with free written quotes on everything.
• Clean sites — dust sheets down, doorways sealed, waste bagged and gone, floors swept every evening.
• Materials specified for the wall in front of us — Thistle plasters, the right board for the room, render systems matched to the substrate.
• Honest advice on the jobs we don’t do: we don’t install damp-proof courses and we never disturb suspect Artex — we tell you who to call and pick the job up properly afterwards.
• A 24/7 line for ceiling collapses and water damage, answered by a person, with the price agreed before the van moves.

Where we’re headed

The work is changing and so are we. Surrey’s period housing stock needs more lime work done properly, not covered in cement; the county’s renovators increasingly want polished plaster instead of paint; and the developers we work with around Woking need taping and jointing at a scale and consistency that rewards a settled team. On the business side, we’re growing our landlord and builder accounts: priority booking, measured-rate pricing, and paperwork that arrives before anyone has to chase it.
