Terms of service.

Last updated: 2026-10-17

These terms govern the supply of plastering, rendering, dry lining, screeding, decorative plaster and insurance reinstatement services by Surrey Plasterers. By placing a booking, you accept these terms.

Quotes and pricing

Quotes given by phone, WhatsApp, or website form are based on the information and photos you provide and are valid for 30 days unless stated otherwise. Larger jobs are quoted after a site visit and fixed in writing. If the work required differs from what was quoted — for example, backing plaster that turns out to be blown once the wall is opened up, rotten laths behind a ceiling, or substrate problems hidden behind old coatings — we’ll always confirm the revised price with you before proceeding.

Payment

Payment is taken in full on completion of the work. Larger jobs (full re-plasters, external rendering, screeds) may be staged: deposit on booking, balance on completion — set out in the quote. We accept all major debit and credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank transfer, and cash. Trade and landlord accounts available by arrangement.

Workmanship guarantee

Our workmanship on plastering, rendering and screeding is guaranteed for 12 months from the date of the work, covering the adhesion, flatness and finish quality of what we applied, provided the substrate has not been altered, overloaded, soaked or worked on by others in the meantime. This sits alongside, and does not reduce, your statutory rights.

Drying, shrinkage and hairline cracks

Fresh plaster, render and screed dry and cure over days to weeks, and minor shrinkage is a normal property of the materials, not a defect. Hairline cracking caused by normal drying, seasonal movement of the building, timber shrinkage in new work, or forced drying (heaters, dehumidifiers run hard against our advice) is excluded from the guarantee, though we will always advise on it honestly. Structural movement of the building is outside the scope of any plastering guarantee. Decorating applied before the recommended drying time, or without a mist coat on fresh plaster, is at your risk.

Scope of trade

We are plasterers, not damp-proofing contractors or asbestos removers. Where a wall needs a damp-proof course or a leak repaired, that work must be completed (by a specialist of your choosing) before we re-plaster, and our guarantee covers our plastering, not the performance of the damp-proofing beneath it. Textured coatings applied before 2000 may contain asbestos: we do not sample, sand or remove suspect material, and may pause work pending a test by an accredited laboratory. Where a specialist’s system (for example a damp-proofing guarantee) dictates a re-plastering specification, we work to that specification.

Insurance reinstatement work

Where we carry out work that forms part of an insurance claim, our written scope of work and photographs are provided in good faith to support your claim, but the claim itself, and any shortfall between our price and your insurer’s settlement, remains between you and your insurer. Unless we agree in writing to be paid directly by the insurer, you are our customer and responsible for payment on completion.

Urgent make-safe attendance

Urgent attendance (ceiling collapses, water-damaged plaster) is quoted as a fixed price before dispatch, including any out-of-hours element — no surcharges added afterwards. The visit covers attendance, making safe and assessment; reinstatement work beyond that is quoted before it starts. Response times are typical figures, not guarantees, and depend on location, traffic and demand.

Access and site conditions

You agree to provide reasonable access to the work area, water and electricity on site, and to tell us in advance of anything unusual (suspected asbestos, restricted parking, occupied rooms that must stay dust-free). We protect floors and furniture in the work area, but you are responsible for moving fragile and valuable items before we arrive. Where scaffold or access equipment is required for external work it is itemised in the quote.

Liability

We are insured for the work we do. Our liability to you is limited to the value of the work invoiced, except where law requires otherwise (e.g. for death or personal injury caused by negligence).

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Any disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
