Urgent help

Ceiling collapse: we’re on our way.

When a lath and plaster ceiling lets go it comes down in heavy sections, often with a century of loft dust behind it. Keep everyone out of the room first — partial collapses are rarely finished. We attend, pull down anything still hanging, make the room safe, photograph the damage for your insurer, and quote the rebuild in writing before any reinstatement starts.

Limit the damage first.

Work through the steps below before anything else — they’re the difference between a wet floor and a collapsed ceiling. Then call us. 24/7 line for collapses · make-safe visits prioritised across the KT postcodes.

What to do right now

  1. Keep people and pets out of the room — if part of a ceiling has come down, the rest is often loose. Close the door.
  2. If water caused it, stop the source: turn off the water at the main stopcock and, if water reached lights or sockets, switch off the affected circuits at the consumer unit.
  3. Do not pull at hanging sections yourself — old lath and plaster is far heavier than it looks and falls unpredictably.
  4. Photograph everything before anything is moved — wide shots and close-ups. Your insurer will want them. Then call us with your postcode.

What we do when we arrive

  • Make it safe: pull down anything loose, seal the area off and stop the damage getting worse.
  • Find the cause: confirm what brought the plaster down — leak, failed keys, impact — before anything is rebuilt.
  • Fix or quote: small repairs done on the spot where drying allows; anything bigger gets a fixed written quote before we continue.
  • Leave you covered: photos and a written scope for your insurer, and the room left safe even if the rebuild waits for drying.

When you call us, have this ready

  • Location: your postcode and anything useful about access or parking.
  • The problem: what you can see — how much has come down, whether it’s still wet, what’s above the room.
  • What you’ve done: stopcock off? Room closed up? Electrics isolated? It changes what we load.
  • Phone signal: are you reachable? We’ll confirm an ETA by text en route.
