Urgent help

Water-damaged plaster: we’re on our way.

Water and gypsum plaster are a bad mix: once plaster has been soaked it can blow, bubble and lose its key even after the surface looks dry. First stop the water and get the leak repaired, then let us assess what can be saved. We hack off only what is genuinely lost, manage proper drying, and re-board or re-skim so there is no ghost of the damage in six months.

Limit the damage first.

Work through the steps below before anything else — they’re the difference between a wet floor and a collapsed ceiling. Then call us. Fast assessment visits · drying advice, strip-out and re-skim handled end to end.

What to do right now

  1. Stop the water at the main stopcock and have the leak itself fixed first — plaster repairs are pointless until the source is dead.
  2. A bulging ceiling is holding water — put a bucket underneath and pierce the bulge with a screwdriver to drain it in a controlled way rather than let it collapse.
  3. Switch off electrics to affected rooms at the consumer unit if water is anywhere near fittings.
  4. Open windows and get air moving, but do not blast the area with heaters — forced drying cracks what might otherwise be saveable. Photograph the damage as you go.

What we do when we arrive

  • Make it safe: pull down anything loose, seal the area off and stop the damage getting worse.
  • Find the cause: confirm what brought the plaster down — leak, failed keys, impact — before anything is rebuilt.
  • Fix or quote: small repairs done on the spot where drying allows; anything bigger gets a fixed written quote before we continue.
  • Leave you covered: photos and a written scope for your insurer, and the room left safe even if the rebuild waits for drying.

When you call us, have this ready

  • Location: your postcode and anything useful about access or parking.
  • The problem: what you can see — how much has come down, whether it’s still wet, what’s above the room.
  • What you’ve done: stopcock off? Room closed up? Electrics isolated? It changes what we load.
  • Phone signal: are you reachable? We’ll confirm an ETA by text en route.
